A JetBlue flight, JetBlue 988, had to make an emergency landing at Logan Airport due to a scary incident involving a cell phone catching fire on board. The flight was cruising at 6,000 feet when the crew radioed air traffic control, saying there was an “electronic fire in the forward part of the cabin.”
The pilot quickly declared a mayday, which is a call for urgent help, and requested to come down to Earth immediately. Air traffic controllers sprang into action, guiding the plane and making sure emergency services were ready to assist upon landing. After several exchanges, they confirmed that the fire was likely from a cell phone but believed it was contained.
As the airplane approached Logan Airport, the crew did their best to manage the situation. They safely landed and were met by emergency vehicles, just in case they were needed. Once on the ground, it became clear that the situation was under control. The flight attendants had acted quickly, placing the device in a trash can and covering it with water to put out the fire.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and passengers were relieved to get back on solid ground after the unexpected scare.
